Adare native Barry Moroney has launched ApexGolf, a new mobile phone application which provides personalised practice and training plans for everyday golfers | .

GOLF is set to be the order of the day in Adare over the next 15 months with the Ryder Cup set for the village.

And one man who hails from the area has built his own golf-technology business.

It is built for the everyday golfer, rather than the elite player likely to grace the greens and fairways at Adare Manor.

He says it is built for “someone with a job, a family, and a genuine desire to improve, but without the coaches and trainers the professionals rely on”.

The app combines on-the-range practice and gym-based training into a single weekly plan that adapts as the golfer logs rounds and progresses, fitting around a busy life rather than demanding the golfer rearrange their week.

Mr Moroney said the app does not try to teach the golf swing, which he sees as the job of teaching professionals.

“This isn’t about swing mechanics,” he says. “It’s about everything that happens between lessons: smarter practice, the right physical work, and the discipline to keep going. That’s why you see me, an amateur golfer, demonstrating the drills, not Butch Harmon.”

Mr Moroney’s Adare roots run deep.

He spent eight summers caddying at Adare Manor as a teenager, and has an eye on the 2027 Ryder Cup at the venue, with the launch.

“Caddying at Adare Manor for so long is a big part of where my love of the game comes from,” he says.

“Launching a golf company as my home town prepares to host the Ryder Cup feels like great timing.”

Mr Moroney built a working prototype of the app himself in 2025 before commissioning a development agency to build the full version.
