Works are underway for water supplies to be improved in Adare.

Improving water supply works in Adare, Co Limerick have gotten underway, as Uisce Éireann has deployed crews to the village to replace 1.5km of old water mains.

An “increased frequency of supply interruption” as a result of “damaged” water main infrastructure means the State utility company has had to prioritise fixing it this New Year.

The section of works will take place along a segment of the L-1422. Works will continue onto the L-8035 at Tuogh, from north of Shauntrade National School towards the L-8035/Kilbreedy junction.

“This significant project for the people of Adare will also involve laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road, to customers’ property boundaries and connecting it to the customers’ water supply,” a spokesperson from Uisce Éireann said.

These works are being carried out as part of Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme.

Programme manager for Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme, Jack Cronin, said: “Replacing these old water mains in poor condition in Adare will eliminate existing leaks and significantly reduce the amount of clean drinking water lost into the ground.

“The delivery of these essential works will help provide a safer, more secure water supply for Adare by minimising the frequency of bursts and improving the resilience of the network.

“The works may require some short-term water interruptions, but the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned interruptions.”

The works will be carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Ward & Burke Construction Ltd and are expected to be completed by March 2024.
