Planning permission has been refused for temporary glamping pods in Adare to serve the Ryder Cup golf competition next year.
Pamper the Camper Ltd lodged plans in July for temporary event facilities across two sites at Graigue and Cummeen, Adare.
The accommodation was to be located to the west of the town at the junction of the N21 and R519 roads.
According to the application, Site A would include a tent area, glamping accommodation, a bar/lounge, a wellness area, a picnic space, and sanitary and water facilities, while Site B would provide campervan parking and car parking.
All structures would be removed and the lands reinstated after the event.
Limerick City and County Council this week refused permission for the development. The application drew objections from two residents who opposed the development and raised a variety of concerns, including impacts on privacy, the location of the toilet facilities and traffic.
In their decision, the council gave six reasons for refusal. They said the development posed risks to pedestrian and traffic safety, could potentially affect the Lower River Shannon and archaeological heritage, and negatively impact neighbouring residential amenities through odour, lighting and disturbance. They said they were not satisfied with the information provided on water supply and wastewater management.
* This article has been updated to state that permission for the development was refused. A previous version of this story said it had been granted with six conditions.
