W.W. Doherty & Sons Ltd recently celebrated 100 years in business with customers, family and friends at Fitzgeralds Woodlands House Hotel in Adare. Dedication, trust, and hard work defines this family business across generations, having been established in 1926 by William Walter Doherty. The business started as a taxi service and bicycle sales shop. Car sales were added in 1927 and the first tractor was sold in 1935.
Walter’s son James joined the company in 1963 and took over the running of the business in 1976 after his marriage to Miriam who took over the office administration while raising a family. Ivor joined the company in 1978 to manage the Stores.
The company moved to its present premises in 1979, giving the company more space for machinery sales and service.
In 1995 W.W. Doherty Kerry branch opened in Tralee, Co. Kerry. In 1996 James’ son Roland joined the Company and in 2013 took over the general management of the business with guidance from James.
The franchises held are Deutz-Fahr Tractors, Conor, Samasz, Numac Trailers and Rossmore equipment.
The company are also importers and distributors for the range of Kab//Seating for the 26 counties. The range covers Agricultural, Industrial, Commercial, Marine and Office Seating.
Motorsport is very much in the Doherty blood, and this is a story for another day!
