The Carmen 150th Anniversary Concert at the University Concert Hall

This major concert is the 1st in a trilogy of concerts culminating in the Adare Suites concerts in 2027 and Ger Reidy, Founder/ Festival Director of the Limerick Opera Festival is looking for your support.

“We are also endeavouring, as we speak to forge international links with the Estonian National Opera and Cleveland Opera in the USA. And next year we will host the inaugural Catherine Hayes International Singing Competition. We expect to have participants from some European neighbours” says Ger Reidy.

Date: Sunday October 19th at the University Concert Hall.

A number of  soloists and the  UL Orchestra will perform the music and arias from Carmen. The MC on the night will be Limerick man Lorcan Murray of Lyric Fm fame.

Saturday October 25th 2025  is Georges Bizet’s birthday , the composer of Carmen and 2025 is the 150th anniversary of the 1st performance  of Carmen in Paris in 1875. Carmen the opera and the Toreador song from Carmen resonate hugely with Limerick people and people in the Midwest Region in general because the Munster Rugby Anthem “Stand up and Fight ” is adapted from the Toreador song !
