3. SCHOOLS FINALS

ChessZ ran Primary and Secondary Schools leagues across Ireland. Also a small Draughts League. Over 260 teams in total. Our Finals are run as a unique 2-in-1 tournament. An individual competition allows us to get an Individual winner, AND a team winner. The team score is comprised of the sum of each Individual players score (who are not allowed to play each other) All Schools are invited to take part, and Strong Individuals are allowed to play in the Irish Finals.

Secondary Schools: Castletroy College/Limerick won the Champions League. Jamie Flynn is the Irish Secondary Schools Champion for 2007-2007. Jamie has been an Irish u10s, u12s, and u14s Champion. Regina Mundi College/Cork won the Irish Girls-only League. Lucinda Holland/Villiers School/Limerick is the Irish Secondary Schools Girls Champion for 2007-2008.

Primary Schools: (150 players attended in Limerick) Creagh NS/Ballinasloe/Co Galway won the Champions League on a Blitz play-off from Clogh NS,Co Kilkenny. John Cormican/Clarinbridge NS/Co Galway is the Irish Primary Schools Boys Champion 2007-2008. Brierhill NS/Galway won the Girls-Only League. Aoife Murray/Brierhill NS/Galway is the 2007-2008 Girls Champion.

Galway's success in both Primary Schools Categories is no surprise as many of the winning players have been regular attenders of the ChessZ monthlies in Galway for the last two years. Some are also avid consumers of the 'Step' series Tactics books. For full cross tables and some photos, please look at.. http://www.geocities.com/chessadare/SchoolsLeagues2007_2008.html Novices leagues continue and will conclude in the next few weeks.

Regards to all John Alfred
